Why it matters
- One donation is split into red cells, plasma and platelets — it can help up to 3 patients.
- You can give whole blood every 3 months, so 4 times a year.
- The donation itself takes around 10 minutes, and most drives hand out a drink and snack afterwards.
Before you go
- Age 17–70 (first-timers 17–60; 17-year-olds need written parental consent; 61–70 need a yearly health check).
- At least 45kg, 5+ hours of sleep, and a meal within the last 4 hours.
- Bring your MyKad, driving licence or passport — plus your donor book if you have one.
- Foreign nationals: living in Malaysia for over a year and comfortable in Malay or English.
- On medication (e.g. for blood pressure)? Tell the counsellor at screening.
Donor benefits
Regular donors get free treatment at Ministry of Health hospitals and clinics, depending on how often they've donated:
- 1–5 times: free outpatient + 2nd-class ward for 4 months
- 2 times in 12 months: free Hepatitis B jab
- 6–10 times: outpatient + 2nd-class ward for 6 months
- 11–15 times: outpatient 2 years, ward 1 year — and longer from there
For citizens & permanent residents; show your red donor book. Full table (National Blood Centre)
