The most complete Melaka event calendar

Beta — under maintenance, coming soon!

Updated September 2026 · for locals & foreigners

Melaka is a UNESCO World Heritage city and one of Malaysia's busiest domestic tourist destinations. On weekends, school holidays, and long weekends the historic core (Jonker, Bandar Hilir, the river) fills up fast — car parks hit capacity by late morning and the drive from Ayer Keroh into town can double.

This calendar pulls together three things every resident, remote worker, and founder here needs to plan around: community events you can join, road closures and festivals that change how you move around the city, and public holidays (pulled live) that spike traffic and crowd out cafes. Plan meetups for weekday mornings when you can; expect Jonker to be pedestrianised Friday to Sunday evenings.

Melaka events & travel — FAQ

Is there heavy traffic in Melaka during public holidays?
Yes. Melaka is one of Malaysia's top domestic tourist destinations, so on public holidays, long weekends, and school holidays the historic core (Jonker, Bandar Hilir, the Melaka River) and Ayer Keroh attractions see two to three times normal traffic. Car parks near Jonker and Mahkota Parade often fill by late morning. Travelling on weekday mornings is much faster.
When is Jonker Walk closed to cars?
Jalan Hang Jebat (Jonker Walk) is pedestrianised for the night market on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, roughly from 6pm. Park at Hang Tuah Mall or Mahkota Parade and walk in. During major festivals such as Chinese New Year the whole historic core is closed and public transport is diverted.
How do I find community and tech events in Melaka?
StartupMelaka maintains this calendar of community events — runs, workshops, founder roundtables, and hackathons — most with one-click RSVP, whether the host uses Luma, Eventbrite, a Google Form, or something else. You can also submit your own event for listing.
Where do the public holidays come from?
Malaysian nationwide public holidays are pulled live from the Nager.Date open API. Melaka state holidays (for example Historic City Day on 15 April and the Governor's birthday) and local road closures are added by the StartupMelaka team.
What is the best time to schedule a meetup in Melaka?
Weekday mornings, before the lunch rush and before tourist traffic builds. Avoid Friday to Sunday evenings in the historic core, and check this calendar for road closures, festivals, and public holidays first.
