- Yes. Melaka is one of Malaysia's top domestic tourist destinations, so on public holidays, long weekends, and school holidays the historic core (Jonker, Bandar Hilir, the Melaka River) and Ayer Keroh attractions see two to three times normal traffic. Car parks near Jonker and Mahkota Parade often fill by late morning. Travelling on weekday mornings is much faster.
- When is Jonker Walk closed to cars?
- Jalan Hang Jebat (Jonker Walk) is pedestrianised for the night market on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, roughly from 6pm. Park at Hang Tuah Mall or Mahkota Parade and walk in. During major festivals such as Chinese New Year the whole historic core is closed and public transport is diverted.
