What's Next?
In Melaka, we do things our unique way.
Melaka is far more than a tourist destination famed for its historical landmarks, asam pedas, and satay celup. Positioned between Klang Valley and Singapore, where talent often leaves in search of higher pay & quality of life. Despite these, Melaka proves that you don't need a megacity to make a global impact.
Global semiconductor giants like Infineon and Texas Instruments setup their manufacturing base and offer high-value technical jobs here, while iconic Malaysian food brands like Mamee, Julie's, Aik Cheong, and Oriental Food (the creators of Super Ring!) all started right here in Melaka.
On the startup side, we have founders who moved from Seremban, Johor, and Singapore to set up their headquarters in Melaka, including Softinn and Wahdah, two of Malaysia's leading travel-tech companies.
It takes a 'kampung' to build a startup.
Some credit the food, others credit the people. We believe it’s everything Melaka has to offer. The challenge remains for local businesses to recruit and retain talent, where salary is only part of the equation alongside culture, community, and life outside of work. At the same time, local talent often misses out on opportunities right in their hometown. We are here to bridge that gap.
As AI transforms how we work, build, and live, grassroots initiatives are just as vital as top-down government policy to ensure our community stays competitive. We are currently utilising this platform to curate accessible resources for local business, career opportunities, and personal wellbeing.
At its core, this project also stems from solving our own problems. After years of remote work in Melaka—and experiencing the burnout of working isolated in a room day and night, we wanted a change. Our goal is to foster an active local community and make Melaka a vibrant, highly livable hub for remote workers, entrepreneurs, and locals.
Consider what you're seeing now as an early version of the site, where it mainly highlights local tech companies, digital agencies, events and so on. We will continue to explore and iterate to serve the communities better. Some of the ideas include, but not limited to:
A) Simple Digital Tools to improve productivity (many are still handling most things manually via Whatsapp):
- Online ordering & booking system for small cafes
- Event registration & management tool for organizers
- Grant & programmes for startups, SMEs and youths
- AI/Digital tools, training course, and discounts
- Mentorships, volunteerships, partnerships, & sponsorships
- Melaka flood & road closure alerts
- Public policy review
- Community blog publishing
